Transcend Unplugged in York

On Friday, Transcend Unplugged was back but this time in York for an evening of song, opera and musical theatre. This was a particularly special event as performing at the front of the St Peter’s School Chapel was Jack’s mum, Gill on piano and her nephew, Sam Young (Baritone).

The evening was split into two halves; with the first seeing Sam and Gill performing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel, a cycle of nine songs drawn from the Robert Louis Stevenson’s collection: Songs of Travel and Other Verses. After a brief intermission, the audience had a chance to grab a drink and explore the Transcend merchandise, which included limited edition risograph prints by Glasgow-based illustrator and friend of Transcend, Chloe O'Dempsey. Following the interval, with the audience back seated in their pews, the second half began, showcasing a selection of musical theatre songs, including pieces from The Phantom of the Opera and West Side Story.

A big thank you to St Peter’s School for allowing us to host the event in their spectacular chapel and for all those who came down to support. And of course to Sam and Gill for their breathtaking performance - the rapturous applause for the pair after both halves of the concert was truly deafening!

A final shout out to Tom Lightwing for the incredible pictures!
