Chattanooga Ironman
There was a first for the charity on the 29th of September with Luke Holmes taking on Transcend’s first full length Ironman! Not only that, but we went fully international with this one as Luke was racing on the other side of the pond in Chattanooga, Tennessee! For those of you that don't know, an Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run to finish things off, all back to back to back (yes on the same day).
Unfortunately, on Wednesday the 25th of September, the Ironman foundation decided to postpone the swim due to the hurricane that had hit Florida, and made its way up through the southeast of the USA. Due to raging currents, and possible issues with bacteria, they didn't really have any other choice, and so the swim portion had to be swapped out for a bike time trial.
Luke had set an internal goal of sub 12 hours (that was estimating a 1 hour 20 swim). He ended up completing the race in 9:39 (which with a 1 hr 20 swim would've been just sub 11 hours, smashing his goal! And alongside all the gruelling training Luke had to put his body through, he raised an incredible £4000+ for Sarcoma research!
We’re so grateful to be seeing Transcend representation at all these incredible tests of endurance and blessed amazing people like Luke are driving investments into soft tissue sarcoma research.
